At Home Learning Activities Your Kids Will Love!

Who says learning at home can't be fun? Our Raleigh day care says it can!!!

That’s why we are offering a few fun, learning projects that you can easily do at home during spring break, summer, and other days away from our Raleigh day care!

Make homemade finger paints:

  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/3 cup of cornstarch
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/4 cup dishwashing soap
  • Food coloring

Put the sugar and cornstarch in a saucepan and then slowly mix in cold water. Then cook the mixture over low heat for 5 minutes, stirring constantly until you have a smooth gel. Let cool and then add dishwashing soap. Divide into as many containers as you would like colors and then mix in food coloring drops until you have your desired color.

If you’d rather, buy store bought finger paint. They can still have the creativity of painting pictures without the math lesson!

Color Free Printables:

Sometimes there just isn’t enough time in the day to be creative. Consider finding free printable coloring pages for your kids. Most sites like Nick Jr, Disney, etc have printables. Let them have a coloring contest to help them practice coloring in the lines.

Computer time:

There are several sites online for your child’s education use and entertainment. A few examples are:

  • ABC Mouse
  • Starfall.com
  • Nick Jr
  • PBS Kids

Melted Crayons:

Melting crayons can be a fun science experiment! Try melting them into molds to get creative!

Sock Toss:

Arrange baskets, buckets, or paper bags in the middle of your living room floor, stuff socks into balls. Whoever gets the most socks in the baskets wins.

Feed the Birds:

This activity really gives the kids something educational to do! Just roll a toilet paper or paper towel holder with peanut butter and popcorn or bird seed, should you have some, and turn it into a bird feeder. Bird watching is a great past time that children will love to do!

Learning at home can be fun! We hope these tips help you and your children have a great time when they’re away from their Raleigh day care. For more tips, be sure to check back with our previous posts!
